CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — One man is dead after what appears to be a retaliatory shooting on Carbondale’s north side Monday.
The first incident happened just after 3:30 p.m. in the 900 block of North Almond Street. Carbondale Police say shots were fired, but the shots did not result in any injuries or property damage.
The second, and deadly, incident happened about three hours later in the 1000 block of North Robert A Stalls Avenue. Police responding to the report of shots fired found a mortally wounded gunshot victim. The victim would be pronounced dead a short time later at SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. The victim is not being identified until next of kin notifications are complete.
The suspects in the fatal shooting are described by police only as four black males traveling in a black four door Dodge Charger.
Carbondale Police believe the fatal shooting is connected to the earlier report of shots fired and both incidents are part of an ongoing dispute among acquaintances.
