SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WJPF) — After reports of unsolicited seeds arriving in the mail from foreign countries, the Illinois Department of Agriculture is offering this advice should you receive any seeds in the mail: Don’t open them, don’t plant them, and don’t throw them out.

The Department of Agriculture says anyone who receives unsolicited seeds in the mail should keep them unopened in their original packaging and mailing labels and await further instructions.

The Department of Ag says they’re working with the USDA on the matter.
