Saturday evening the Vienna school board met and approved the hiring of Steve Dreher as their next boys’ basketball coach.

Dreher has 24 years worth of coaching experience, 20 of which has come as a head coach.  He’s coached strictly in Western Kentucky making him a stranger to most in the Southern Illinois area.

“Coach Dreher brings a lot of experience, says Vienna Athletic Director David Hill.  “[It] seems like the best option to build the basketball program at all levels.”

Dreher has a career record of 358-254; he most recently coach the Paducah Tilghman girls team the past four seasons.  He coached the boys squad from 1988-1994, which included a trip to the state final four in Kentucky, a team that won 32 games and is still a school record at Paducah Tilghman.

Dreher replaces Cory Waters, who coached the Eagles the past ten seasons with just three winning seasons in his tenure.  The Eagles went just 3-28 this past year.
