HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) — Herrin’s Doughboy statue has been vandalized.

It happened Thursday night.

Witnesses reported seeing teenagers throwing rocks at the granite base of the statue. A bronze plaque was also damaged.

The statue, honoring World War One veterans, was restored in 2018 after years of fundraising.
