MARION, Ill. (WJPF) — The Southern Illinois Power Cooperative has announced plans to shut down the company’s largest coal fired generator.

As many as 26 of the company’s 82 employees could face layoffs.

The Marion power plant is expected to continue operating one smaller coal-fired generator and a pair of natural gas generators.
