Vienna has voted to bring back Rick Metcalf who formerly coached in the district. On Coach Metcalf’s return to Vienna he will be serving as the Head Girls Basketball coach. Metcalf graduated from Mayville State with a double major in physical education and social science. He was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2009 with a compiled win-loss record of 608-198 as head coach and an incredible 46 championships since 1991. Metcalf is the only coach in Illinois who has coached in the IBCA all-star game as head coach for both the boys and girls division. In his noteworthy basketball career, he has had only one losing season as a player or coach since 1975. Prior to being a high school coach, he was an assistant coach at Kankakee Community College and later at Murray State. The Murray “Racers” played in both the NCAA and NIT tournaments. In 1983, Metcalf was an assistant coach at Mayville State.
Athletic director David Hill said, “It will be good to have coach Metcalf in action. Our girls team will be a strong contender in this and upcoming season and he will be more than capable of leading them into the future.”
Mr. Metcalf shared, “I am excited to join the Vienna Eagles family again. I am looking forward to a great year with this group of talented athletes.”
Superintendent Joshua W. Stafford said, “Our athletic program is an important part of our overall school expecine for students and our community. A person with Coach Metcalf’s experience will only enhance this program.”
