CHICAGO (AP) — A suburban Chicago man who portrayed himself as a heavyweight in the Las Vegas sports gambling scene has pleaded guilty to defrauding an investor out of about $9.6 million.
Twenty-seven-year-old Robert Gorodetsky, of Northbrook, pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal counts of wire fraud and filing a false tax return. He faces up to six years in prison when he’s sentenced in April.
Prosecutors say Gorodetsky defrauded the victim out of money that the victim thought would be bet on sports and invested in the stock market between 2014 and 2017.
