CHICAGO (AP) — A 23-year-old community activist who works for U.S. Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia has been appointed to a vacant Illinois House seat.
Democratic leaders named Edgar Gonzalez Jr., on Friday evening to a Chicago-area post vacated by former state Rep. Celina Villaneuva. She was appointed to fill the state Senate seat vacated by ex-Sen. Martin Sandoval, who’s under federal investigation.
Gonzalez will fill the remainder of Villanueva’s term. He’s also the only candidate on the March primary ballot for the job.
