U.S. Steel Corporation says it will restart one of two blast furnaces along with steel-making facilities in Granite City.

The announcement comes after President Trump’s announcement of a planned 25% tariff on steel imports.

U.S. Steel officials say they anticipate calling about 500 Granite City Works employees back to work this month.

About 2,000 workers were laid off when U.S. Steel idled that plant in late 2015.
