A Marion teenager is dead after his vehicle was hit by a train.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Cody Robertson’s van was hit by a southbound Amtrak train at a crossing at US 51 and Helm Road. That’s about two miles south of DeSoto.

Robertson was pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries to anyone on the train have been reported.

The crossing where the accident occurred only has crossbuck and yield signs, no flashing lights, bells or gates.
