An early morning crash involving two semi’s on I-57 near West Frankfort tied up traffic for most of the morning Wednesday.
According to state police, 36 year old Michael McGarvey swerved to avoid something in the road, lost control, and laid the tractor-trailer over on its side, crossways of the interstate.
34 year old Martin Brouillette was driving the second semi and was unable to react in time. Police say Brouillette hit the overturned wreck in the road, without slowing down, ripping through the trailer, spilling its contents across the interstate.
Both Brouillette and a passenger had to be cut out of the semi. Brouillette was flown from the scene to a regional hospital. His passenger was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
McGarvey, the driver of the first semi, refused medical treatment at the scene.
