National Railway Equipment plans to shut down its Paducah production facility on June 26 and lay off the 38 employees there.

The facility manufactures locomotives and locomotive parts – a downturn in coal, oil and steel production has led to less Railway traffic, and less business for NRE.

The company said it is confident the suspension of production will be short term.
