Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner says a shutdown of some state government services is likely if lawmakers don’t pass a stopgap budget.
The next fiscal year begins Friday, July 1. Lawmakers failed to pass a budget by the end of session May 31. They’re back in Springfield Wednesday. Rauner says they must act pass a stopgap measure for construction, some human services and supplies for public safety.
Standing alongside Rauner, Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico says cities can go for a while without money from the state’s Local Government Distributive Fund. The focus is really on state government services.
Rauner says lawmakers agree on a stopgap measure for state operations.
