SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Senate has sent two more plans to the House for changing public-school funding.

The Senate voted 31-19 Friday to pass a plan by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. It focuses on helping cash-strapped Chicago Public Schools.

The plan would require the state to cover Chicago teachers’ pension costs as it does for teachers elsewhere in Illinois. And the plan authorizes a Chicago property tax increase to pay back pension costs.

Cullerton’s plan skirts the issue of rewriting the funding formula for three years.

The Senate also voted 31-18 to pass a plan by Democratic Sen. Kimberly Lightford of Maywood to rewrite the formula beginning with 2017-2018 and ensure no school district receives less money in the future.
