FRANKLIN CO- According to a press conference held Tuesday evening, the Franklin County Sheriff’s office received a call of a residential burglary in progress where witnesses saw a man leaving the house with multiple firearms.

Police began a high speed chase for the suspect, Joshua Moreno 38, of Bowling Green, Kentucky. The report states he had hit a deputy’s vehicle and shot multiple times at officers during the chase. Moreno’s vehicle had “become disabled” on I-57. He then hijacked another vehicle and continued fleeing.

Moreno stopped just south of Benton, near the skating rink on Route 37, where he exited the car and continued shooting at the officers. Reports state that officers from multiple agencies responded and returned fire.

Moreno was declared dead by the Franklin County coroner.

There were no known injuries to officers or other citizens at the time. The sheriff’s office ended the press conference by offering their condolences to the family of Moreno and members of the community.
