SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Authorities in Illinois are asking Super Bowl revelers to make plans now for designating a sober driver.
Illinois State Police Col. Tad Williams says DUIs are responsible for nearly a third of all fatal crashes in the state.
The state police, department of transportation and multiple sheriffs’ departments released a statement Thursday urging those attending watch parties on Sunday to make a plan for getting home safely.
Their advice includes designating a sober driver before the party or arranging a ride from a cab, friend or relative.
They’re also asking those hosting parties to take some responsibility and make sure guests have safe rides home.
