Southern Illinois’ representatives in Congress both voted to override the President’s veto of legislation which would repeal the affordable care act and defund Planned Parenthood.
Congressman John Shimkus cast his vote, although he later mentioned that “repealing Obamacare will take nothing less than a bill signed by the President.”
Congressman Mike Bost also voted in favor of overriding the President, saying in regards to Planned Parenthood; “No person should be forced to compromise his or her conscience on matters of protecting life by having their tax dollars subsidize such actions.”
The Congressional Budget Office concludes that repealing major provisions of the Affordable Care Act would reduce the federal deficit by $516 billion over the next ten years.
