CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois residents who want to know the meeting times and agendas for the hundreds of state boards and commissions will be able to get email alerts under a new law.

Currently, people who want to find out when a board or commission is meeting and what they’ll talk about have to go to each individual agency’s website. There are more than 350 boards and commissions.

But a new law taking effect Friday will allow people to sign up for email alerts for the boards and commissions they’re interested in. Agenda and meeting details need to be posted 48 hours before they happen.
