The eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 were closed after a crash near the interchange with I-57 near Mt. Vernon.

According to the IL State Police, the crash happened at 11:45 am yesterday when 57-year old James Patton of Watertown, TN was heading northbound on I-57 at Mile Marker 92. Patton incorrectly judged the curve and broke through a guard rail, before rolling down an embankment, and ending up in the eastbound lanes of 64.

Patton was taken to the hospital with incapacitating injuries according to the State Police.

A detour was set up before the lanes were reopened around 5:15 last night.
