A man is dead after crashing his motorcycle in Franklin County on Sunday.

36-year old Mark Holtz of West Frankfort was travelling at a high rate of speed northbound on Orient Road when he was unable to negotiate a curve, went into a ditch, and was thrown from his motorcycle around 9:20 pm.

Holtz died from his injuries at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was not wearing his helmet.
