Murphysboro Police were called to a report of a woman that had been shot yesterday afternoon.

A release from the Murphysboro Police Department says that the shooting appears to have taken place after an argument between several people.

The suspect, 59-year old Napolean Hughes of Murphysboro allegedly fled the area on foot, before being found a short time later.

Hughes was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail. Hughes was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and no valid FOID card.
