METROPOLIS, Ill. (AP) — A tentative settlement has been reached in a nearly eight-month labor dispute that has affected a Honeywell nuclear fuel production facility.

Federal mediators said Saturday the tentative agreement between Honeywell’s Metropolis Works and the United Steelworkers Local 7-669 could end a work stoppage that began in August.

Allison Beck is the acting director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, which called the parties back to the bargaining table on Wednesday.

She says the deal followed “many hours of intense talks.”

The agreement must still be ratified.

In a statement, Honeywell said it was pleased with the new, three-year contract but would not comment on its specific terms.

It says union members will vote next Wednesday or Thursday.

Union representatives did not respond to messages seeking comment.
