CHICAGO (AP) — After Gov. Pat Quinn lost the November election to Bruce Rauner, he had the state write a $10 million check to a film studio to buy land on Chicago’s West Side that was not for sale.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported Sunday that Cinespace Chicago Film Studios cashed the check but hasn’t used any of the grant to buy land near where it films “Chicago Fire” and other television shows.
The newspaper says the owners of six properties listed on the studio’s grant application say they don’t plan to sell and a seventh property doesn’t appear to be for sale.
The newspaper says the studio’s owners previously had trouble complying with reporting requirements on an earlier grant.
Neither Quinn nor the studio owner returned the newspaper’s messages seeking comment.
