An investigation by the Illinois State Police is underway in the death of a man who hanged himself in the Saline County Jail on Tuesday.

51-year old Jeffery Nolen was reportedly being held on retail theft charges.

State Police officials say investigators are interviewing inmates, jailers, and members of Nolen’s family.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Officials are not releasing any further details.
