The Southern Illinois Airport located between Carbondale and Murphysboro has retained its position as the 4th busiest airport in the state.

Air traffic is measured by the FAA, in terms of the number of arrivals and departures. Southern Illinois University’s aviation program has spurred much of the traffic at the airport.

The Southern Illinois Airport finished behind Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Chicago Midway International Airport, and St. Louis Downtown Airport located in Cahokia.
