IL families and daycare centers find themselves in a rough spot as state subsidies have begun running out.

A $300 million hole in the budget for the Illinois Child Care Assistance Program must be filled this year. Right now, the state doesn’t have the money, and federal funds won’t go far enough to keep some daycare centers in Illinois open for the foreseeable future.

One such center which will have to close its doors is the Growing Patch Learning Center in Herrin.

In all, 2200 families in our area depend on daycare centers.

With the shortage of funds, the Growing Patch Learning Center will close its doors Friday.
