U.S. Sen. Mark S. Kirk (R-IL) doesn’t have any kind words for the outgoing governor.

As far as Kirk is concerned, Gov. Pat Quinn isn’t leaving behind much of a legacy. “It’s pretty small,” Kirk said. “Especially being Rod Blagojevich’s running mate. He would like people to forget how he got into the office on the basis of the most corrupt and criminal administration that we’ve had in the state of Illinois that made our state a complete economic laughingstock.”

Kirk has been especially critical of Quinn over the past year, including calling for a federal investigations into whether Quinn’s administration misused federal funds in setting up the Neighborhood Recovery Initiative in 2010, or in the midst of a patronage scandal at the Illinois Department of Transportation. Kirk has also been a strong supporter of Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner.

As for rumors that Quinn may challenge Kirk for his Senate seat in 2016, Kirk isn’t worried. “I’d say have at it, you’re going to lose,” Kirk said.
