SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Supreme Court has refused to consider an appeal from convicted killer Nicholas Sheley, who had sought to overturn one of his murder convictions in a 2008 killing spree.

The Springfield bureau of Lee Enterprises newspapers reports (http://bit.ly/1HIIgz4 ) that the high court rejected the request on Wednesday without comment.

Sheley is serving life sentences for six slayings in Illinois, and is awaiting trial for killing an Arkansas couple in Missouri.

The 35-year-old argued he should get a new trial in Knox County, Illinois, because of pretrial publicity.

A Missouri prosecutor says Sheley’s extradition paperwork remains with Gov. Jay Nixon, and there is no timeline for the governor to act.

Unlike Illinois, Missouri has the death penalty. But Missouri prosecutors haven’t said if they will pursue it in Sheley’s case.
