A report was published Tuesday about the unfair labor practice complaints being filed against the Honeywell plant in Metropolis. Today, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said that officials at the plant failed to recognize the escape of dangerous gases.
Honeywell twice reported that the incident on October 26th was not as bad as it seemed, saying the leak of Uranium Hexaflouride had not risen to emergency levels set by the commission.
A cloud of gas was seen and shot on video by locked out union workers protesting outside. NRC officials are assessing the misclassification of the gas leak and potential penalties against Honeywell.
This is the fourth time that gases have leaked inside the plant since 2008.
