SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Bruce Rauner and his wife have given millions of dollars to causes on both ends of the political spectrum.

Rauner is the GOP candidate for governor. His family’s foundation has given $19 million in the past 15 years to groups from the American Red Cross to the abortion-rights courtroom arm of the American Civil Liberties Union.

Rauner spokesman Mike Schrimpf says the balanced record shows Rauner can work with everyone.

Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn and other critics complain the Rauners have given millions to groups espousing Social Security privatization and opposing the belief that humans are responsible for climate change.

Rauner has donated to the Congressional Campaign of Republican Mike Bost as well.
