A new disabled-access playground in Carterville was vandalized just hours after its opening.
Carterville Mayor Brad Robinson says the vandals dug sealant out of the wheelchair-accessible swings, smeared the sealant all over the swings, then tangled the swings together and filled them with straw.
The Carterville Parks Department is working to clean up the mess, and cameras will be installed all around Cannon Park.
On a similar topic, a $500 reward was initially offered for information that directly leads to an arrest of individuals who recently vandalized the Carterville Community Center by breaking glass in the front doors and windows.
As of 9:30 pm Friday night, that reward was bumped up to $1000.
If you have any informaiton in regards to these recent acts of vandalism, you are strongly encouraged to call the Carterville Police Department at 618-685-4853.
