Two separate sexual assault incidents have led to the arrest of six SIU students.
Dequante Daniels, Teon Slaughter, Conner Mayweather, and Damiyon Griffin, all 18 years of age were arrested Saturday morning for criminal sexual assault at Schneider Hall, according to the Southern Illinoisan.
Mayweather played football for SIU at one point before being cut from the team due to an injury. If he is cleared of the charges, he will be eligible to still receive his 4-year scholarship.
The 18 year old victim, whose name was withheld, was treated at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale before being released.
In a separate incident, 18 year old Devon Williams of St. Louis, and 20 year old Deandre Downey were arrested at the Wall and Grand Apartments for criminal sexual assault. The victim in this incident was 18 years old, but did not attend school.
Officials at SIU say incoming students must participate in an online sexual assault awareness program before beginning classes.
All six men are incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail at this time.
