West Frankfort, Ill. – A woman faces theft charges for allegedly filing fraudulent tax returns on behalf of relatives.
52-year-old Teresa Joplin of West Frankfort was arrested Tuesday after an investigation found $10,000 dollars worth of discrepancies on tax returns she’s accused of preparing.
The Daily American in West Frankfort reports family members believe Joplin was filing returns with the IRS that were different than ones given to family members for their own records. The copies filed with the IRS allegedly show deductions going to an account not owned by the victim.
Joplin has been released on bond pending her next court appearance.
